Romine Leads Hot-Hitting RailRiders Past Tribe
Indianapolis, Ind. – In downtown Indianapolis, the hot-hitting journey for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) continued Saturday night at Victory Field in a 7-3 triumph over the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates). The league’s top offense hung crooked numbers in successive innings paced by an 11-hit attack. Austin Romine led the way with three base knocks and RailRiders’ (28-26) starter Shane Greene spun five shutout innings before departing in the seventh in a well-rounded win.
After a 1-2-3 first inning, the SWB bats tagged Indianapolis starter Adam Wilk for four hits in the visiting second. Zelous Wheeler reached on an infield hit and advanced to third on a double down the left-field line by Russ Canzler. Francisco Arcia and Romine put the RailRiders on the board with back-to-back RBI base hits for the 2-0 lead.
Indianapolis (33-22) added a tally in the home sixth before the RailRiders responded with two runs in the visiting seventh. Arcia and Romine connected on consecutive base knocks followed by an intentional walk to Jose Pirela that loaded the bases for Corban Joseph. A miscue by the Tribe’s Tony Sanchez cleared the bases and extended the RailRiders lead to 4-1.
Romine closed the book on Wilk with a thunderous three-run home run in the eighth off reliever Tyler Waldron that cemented Indianapolis’ fate. Greene (3-2) won his third-straight outing while Wilk (3-5) was tagged with the loss in the 116-pitch effort.
