The Yankees are in the post season for the fifth time in six years under manager Dave Miley… In each of the five seasons that SWB has made the playoffs as a Yankees affiliate, the team has entered the post season as the International League North champions…All time as a Yankees affiliate, counting Wednesday’s 7-4 loss to Pawtucket, the team has posted an 11-13 record…In each of the previous four seasons in the playoffs when the Yankees have failed to win the title, SWB has lost to the eventual Governors’ Cup champion…In 2007, SWB lost to Richmond in the opening round 3-1.  The Yankees won the Governors’ Cup Championship in 2008, defeating Pawtucket 3-1 and beating Durham in the finals 3-1.  SWB made a return trip to the Governors’ Cup Finals in 2009 after defeating Gwinnett in the opening round 3-1.  The Yankees were swept in the ’09 finals by Durham 3-0.  The last time in the post season for SWB was 2010 and resulted in an opening round loss to eventual league champion Columbus 3-1.

Ramiro Pena is tied for third amongst batters in the playoffs with a .500 average.  The shortstop who rejoined the Yankees in time for the opening game of the series with Pawtucket after clearing waivers has two multi-hit games in each of the first two games. Pena’s four hits are also tied for third for the most amongst players in the 2012 post season.

The Yankees have dropped the first two games of the first round playoff series to Pawtucket losing 7-4 on Wednesday night and 3-2 on Thursday at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket…The Yankees as a franchise find themselves down 0-2 for just the second time in five postseasons and the first time since trailing the Durham Bulls 0-2 in the 2009 Governors’ Cup Finals…Durham completed the three game sweep over the Yankees in ’09 winning the title…Following the opening game loss to the Paw Sox on Wednesday the Yankees were faced with having to rewrite history, as the team had never dropped the opening game of a playoff series and have come back to win…In 2007 Richmond defeated Dave Miley’s first SWB Yankees playoff team 3-2 in the opening game at the Diamond.  The Yankees won game two, 6-4, to even the series at 1-1.  Richmond won the next two games at PNC Field to take the series 3-1…In 2010 the Yankees dropped the opening game of the best of five series at Columbus 6-4 in 10 innings.  SWB picked up a 5-4 win in 10 innings the following night to even the series up before dropping the next two to the Clippers to lose the series 3-1..
