Despite a forecast on Tuesday that called for an 80% chance on rain Wednesday night, the tarp is off the field in Pawtucket for game one of the Governors’ Cup Playoffs between the Yankees and Paw Sox.

SWB YANKEES GAME NOTES: Game 1 at Pawtucket

YANKEES AND RED SOX…
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Pawtucket meet for the second time in the International League Playoffs since the Yankees moved from Columbus to Moosic following the 2006 season.  Scranton/Wilkes-Barre beat the Red Sox 3-1 in the opening round of the Governors’ Cup Playoffs in 2008 on their way to the International League title…Pawtucket won the 2012 regular season series 9-7 over the Yankees…The teams split in the Yankees home games 4-4, with the Paw Sox taking the season series at Mc Coy Stadium 5-3…Since the Yankees Triple-A affiliate moved to NEPA following the 2006 season, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre holds a 56-40 advantage in head-to-head matchups with Pawtucket. The Yankees have a 25-15 record at PNC Field vs. the Red Sox, are 1-3 in home games played in New York State and finished 3-1 as the “home” team at McCoy Stadium… Over the same stretch SWB is 27-21 as the road team in Pawtucket…All time, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is 203-209 vs. the Paw Sox with a 114-90 record as the home team and an 89-119 mark as the visitors at McCoy Stadium.

SWB YANKEES IN THE POST SEASON…
The Yankees are in the post season for the fifth time in six years under manager Dave Miley… In each of the five seasons that SWB has made the playoffs as a Yankees affiliate, the team has entered the post season as the International League North champions…All time as a Yankees affiliate the team has posted an 11-12 record…In each of the four seasons in the playoffs the Yankees have failed to win, the team has lost to the eventual Governors’ Cup champion…In 2007, SWB lost to Richmond in the opening round 3-1.  The Yankees won the Governors’ Cup Championship in 2008, defeating Pawtucket 3-1 and beating Durham in the finals 3-1.  SWB made a return trip to the Governors’ Cup Finals in 2009 after defeating Gwinnett in the opening round 3-1.  The Yankees were swept in the ’09 finals by Durham 3-0.  The last time in the post season for the Yankees was 2010 and resulted in an opening round loss to eventual league champion Columbus 3-1.

ADDED TO THE MIX…
Luke Murton has been added to the SWB Yankees playoff roster and will get the start on Wednesday night at first base in the opening game of the series against the Paw Sox.  Murton hit a career high 25 homers and drove in a career best 68 runs with the Double-A Trenton Thunder in the 2012 regular season.  In a career best 126 games, the younger brother of former Major Leaguer Matt Murton hit .249 (116-466)…He was drafted twice by the Yankees first in 2007 and then again in 2009 when he signed as a 19th round selection out of Georgia Tech University.
