Darren London Named International League “Trainer of the Year”
Award voted on by peer’s honors excellence and dedication to athletic training
Moosic, PA –Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Athletic Trainer Darren London has been named the 2012 International League Trainer of the Year. The award is presented by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), which consists of athletic trainers throughout both major and minor league baseball.
For the twenty first consecutive year the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), is honoring members of the organization for their dedication to athletic training, professional baseball and PBATS.
“I am grateful to be recognized by my peers in the International League and the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society for the work that I have done this season,” said London. “To earn this honor for a second time in my career is very special.”
London is in his 24th consecutive season in the Yankees organization and his 20th at the Triple-A level. He began his career in 1989 with Single-A Prince William where he work for two seasons, before moving to Single-A Ft. Lauderdale in 1991 and Double-A Albany in 1992. London has been at the Triple-A level with the Yankees since 1993. He is a graduate of the University of Maine where he earned a BS in physical education with a coaching minor.
“I’ve worked with Darren London since joining the Yankees organization in 2006,” said SWB Yankees Manager Dave Miley. “He not only does a great job with our injured players but makes sure through treatment and prevention that they stay healthy and on the field.”
The award is the second in London’s career, having been a previous winner in 2006 while the Yankees top affiliate was in Columbus, Ohio. He becomes the third “Trainer of the Year” recipient in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre franchise history joining the inaugural award winner Barney Nugent in 1992 and Craig Strobel in 1996.
