Dickerson’s Two-RBI Single Sinks Red Wings in 3-1 Extra Innings SWB Win
Brian Dinkelman breaks up Warren’s no hit bid with one out in the 8th on an infield single
Rochester, NY – It’s always important to cash in with the bases loaded in the game of baseball. Yankee outfielder Chris Dickerson did just that with a two-RBI single to right field in the top half of the 11th leading the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees past the Rochester Red Wings by a score of 3-1 in game two of a four game series at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY on Tuesday night.
The Yankees ended the pitchers duel in the top half of the eighth to take a 1-0 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Ronnier Mustelier grounded up the middle and Red Wings second baseman Brian Dinkelman made a stellar play to get the out at second, but the throw from Eduardo Escobar was not in time allowing Dickerson to score from third for the first Scranton/Wilkes-Barre run.
The Red Wings came right back in the home half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankee starter Adam Warren lost his no hit bid when Brian Dinkelman grounded softly to second base. Corban Joseph charged the ball hard and nearly made a terrific play, but a hustling Dinkelman made the play even tougher. Rene Rivera then roped an RBI double, plating Dinkelman at tying the game.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took the lead for good when Dickerson lofted a two-run single into shallow right field. Brandon Laird scored easily from third, while Melky Mesa came home from second. Dickerson’s single made it a 3-1 ballgame heading into the home half of the 11th inning.
Cory Wade got his first win for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, while Ryota Igarashi picked up the save with a scoreless 11th for the Yankees improving to 4-3 in his time with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Warren was terrific on the bump for the Yankees in the no decision. The right-hander out of the University of North Carolina tossed eight innings allowing just one run on two hits, while striking out nine and walking just two. Bobby Lanigan suffered the loss for the Red Wings.
The Yankees and Red Wings take the field tomorrow evening for game three of a four game series as the visiting team at Frontier Field. Left-hander Mike O’Connor takes the bump for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while right-hander Shairon Martis heads to the hill for the Red Wings.
With the win Scranton/Wilkes-Barre moves to just 0.5 games behind the Pawtucket Red Sox and increased their wild card lead to one game over Lehigh Valley. Both the PawSox and the IronPigs were off on Tuesday evening.
