Hoping for a Window in Pawtucket

The only action on the field Saturday night was Pawtucket first baseman Lars Anderson playing frisbee. Sunday’s forecast includes an 85% chance of rain

The Yankees and Red Sox were rained out Saturday night when a huge storm system dumped a whole bunch of rain on the Pawtucket, Rhode Island area.  Sunday’s forcast after 2PM is not much better. An 85% chance of thunderstorms over a six hour window.  SWB has played one game shortned due to weather.  It happend on the current road trip in the opening game at Gwinnett on July 20th.

Brandon Laird and Corban Joseph enter play on Sunday against Pawtucket riding hit steaks.  Laird, who picked up his first multi-homer game of the season on Friday night has hit in a personal best nine straight games raising his overall average from .235 to .252.  Over the stretch he has five multi-hit games and is hitting .400 (9-16) with 8R, 2 2B, 4HR, 13RBI, 1BB and 9K’s.  Joseph’s current streak sits at eight games and is his longest hit streak since beginning his first 10 straight games (June 1st – 9th) as an SWB Yankee with at least one hit.  During his current eight game stretch he is hitting .388 (12-31) with 6R, 6 2B, 2HR, 10RBI, 5BB and 4K’s.

With the addition of Lee Hyde and Saturday’s rainout, the Yankees pitching have gotten some help from a numbers and a rest standpoint with a dozen pitchers on the roster and no longer the need for back-to-back spot starts from Justin Thomas, things are a bit more calm than what they have been.  Pawtucket isn’t in quite the same boat but the Red Sox have changed up their rotation and order of things for the two days against the Yankees in Rochester on Monday and Tuesday.  SWB will now miss Tony Pena Jr. who was scheduled to start on Tuesday.  Sunday’s starter (before Saturday’s postponement) Zach Stewart will now pitch on Monday and is will follow up Daisuke Matsuzaka who is expected to make a rehab start.  Monday’s starter and former SWB Yankee and Red Baron Nelson Figueroa will get the start in the final game at Frontier Field on Tuesday.
