SWB Continues on Run of 12 Straight Games Against the Top Teams in the IL

Ramon Ortiz 4th in the IL with a 2.80 ERA goes for his ninth win of the season in the third game of a four game series against the Charlotte Knights

SWB YANKEES GAME NOTES – Game #106 (Road #50) @ Charlotte

7-26 Notes

The Yankees are currently in a stretch of 12 games where the team will go head to head against the top three teams in the IL.  SWB is in the middle of a four game series with IL South leading Charlotte (61-45 2nd in IL) and will open a four game (two road and two “home” series with Pawtucket (59-47 3rd in IL) from Sunday through Tuesday.  Following an off day on August 1st, the Yankees will open up a four game series with IL West leading Indianapolis (65-41 1st in IL) beginning next Wednesday.  SWB’s current and next two opponents are a combined 51 games over .500.

Despite committing two errors in Wednesday’s loss to Charlotte, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is still one of the top defensive teams in Triple-A Baseball in 2012.  The Yankees 71 errors are the third fewest in the Minor league’s top level behind Nashville of the PCL (69) and Louisville of the IL (70).  SWB committed the fewest errors in all of professional baseball at any level in 2011 with 67 in 142 games.

The Yankees have just six “home” games remaining at Frontier Field in Rochester with two against Pawtucket in July 30th and 31st and four against Indianapolis from August 2nd – 5th.  SWB will essentially be a road team for the final 28 games of the regular season playing its final eight “home” games in the “visiting” team’s ballpark.  As the “home team” on the road this season the Yankees are 16-12.

The Yankees will wrap up the road trip after Friday’s game against Charlotte with a two game series at Pawtucket.  SWB’s pitching is still (at this point) shorthanded with 11 pitchers active.  It goes without saying that quality (lengthy) starts from both Ramon Ortiz on Thursday and Adam Warren on Friday would be huge.

Probables for SWB vs. Pawtucket

SUN @ PAW – LH Justin Thomas (SWB) @ RH Zach Stewart (PAW)

TUES vs. PAW – RH Tony Pena Jr. (PAW) vs. RH Ramon Ortiz (SWB)
