John Maine makes his fifth start (sixth appearance) for the Yankees on Sunday afternoon in Syracuse against the Buffalo Bisons…Maine suffered the no decision in his last start… Despite not earning a decision, Maine did have his longest outing of the season on July 3rd at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown. The veteran right-hander tossed seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. The Yankees eventually lost the game 6-5…On the season the right hander is 2-2 with a 6.00 ERA with the majority of the damage against him with the Yankees coming in a June 23rd start at Indianapolis where he was lifted after 0.1 IP…Maine faced nine hitters, eight of whom reached base, allowing 6R, 6ER on 5H with 2BB, 1K and a hit batsman…He signed a Minor League free agent deal with New York on May 26th after being released by the Boston Red Sox… Maine pitched for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in 2011 posting a 1-3 with a 7.43 ERA in 11 starts…In 46.0 IP he allowed 56H, 48R, 38ER, 6HR, 37BB, 35K and a .315 average against…Maine has pitched in parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues with Baltimore (’04-’05) and the New York Mets (’06-’10) posting a 41-36 record with a 4.35 ERA…He has pitched in the IL with Ottawa (’04-’05), Norfolk (’06) and Buffalo (’10).

Last night, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees faced a pitcher who was in their clubhouse just last week… Chris Scwinden took the mound out of the bullpen last night for the Buffalo Bisons. It was the veteran right-handers first appearance with the Bisons, since being claimed off of waivers by the New York Mets on July 5th after the New York Yankees designated him for assignment on July 4th. The move was made by the Yankees to make room on the roster for recently claimed New York Yankee, Darnell McDonald. In one start with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Schwinden was 0-1 with a 6.75.
