Alone in Third and Another Win for the Pen…

SWB YANKEES GAME NOTES - Game #67 vs. Syracuse (31-34)
ALONE AGAIN AND IT’S BETTER THIS WAY…
The Yankees kept pace with Pawtucket on Friday night picking up a come from behind win over Syracuse in the second game of the four game “home” series at Alliance Bank Stadium. SWB remains 5.0 games behind the Paw Sox in the IL North but have moved 1.0 games ahead of Buffalo who was beaten by Pawtucket on Friday. While the Yankees remain in third, they no longer share the spot with the Bisons and are still just one game out of second and out of the Wild Card lead trailing rival Lehigh Valley for both. Prior to today, the last time the Yankees held third in the IL North by themselves was after a May 30th win over Toledo.
D.J. Mitchell looks for his SWB leading sixth win of the season on Saturday night against Syracuse…Over his last 28.2 IP covering five starts Mitchell has allowed 28ER (8.79 ERA)…His last time out the right hander suffered his third loss of the season vs. Louisville at Frontier Field on June 10th allowing 5R (5ER) on 6H over 6.0 IP with 4BB and 5K…In his last five games Mitchell’s ERA has increased from 3.73 to 5.43…In three career starts against Syracuse (one start in 2012 on 4/8) he is 1-2 with a 2.37 ERA and one complete game (4/23/11)…In 19.0 IP vs. SYR he has allowed 14H, 5R, 5ER, 2HB, 7BB and 12K…Mitchell has held the Chiefs to a .209 batting average….Mitchell got his first Major League call up on April 29th and appeared in two games with New York before being optioned back to SWB on May 4th…He made his Major League on May 1st against Baltimore with a scoreless inning allowing two hits with one strikeout…Mitchell is pitching in his third season with SWB (2010 debut) and in 2011 led the Yankees with 13 wins, a 3.18 ERA, 161.1 IP, and 112K.
CERVING UP A HIT STREAK…
Francisco Cervelli extended his season best hit streak to eight games with a 1-4 night against Syracuse on Friday night. The Yankees catcher kept his longest streak of the season alive with an infield single in a four run seventh inning rally helping SWB come from behind to beat Syracuse 5-4. During the eight game run Cervelli is hitting .323 (10-31) with 4R, 3 2B, 4RBI, 3BB, 8K’s and 1SB.
