Hit Bull Win Steak and Monday’s Winning “Pitcher”

SWB YANKEES GAME NOTES – June 5th

6-5 Game Notes

HIT BULL WIN STEAK…
The Durham Bulls actually have a promotion this season with local Outback Steak House resturants.  If a Bulls player hits the Bull high above the wall in left field for a Grand Slam home run, everyone in attendance receives a  free steak dinner. No word on whether or not Crash Davis walks out to the mound and tells the pitcher (who served up beef for 7,000 plus) “Look at that he hit the #&$%! Bull! Guy gets a free steak dinner!”

WHELAN TO THE DL…
Yankees closer KevinWhelan has been placed on the DL with a sore right elbow retroactive to June 4th.  Whelan said he has been “trying to pitch his way through it.” Hopefully some rest will be a good remedy for the IL co-leader in save with 12.

ON THE MIC – SWB Catcher RYAN BAKER…
Baker who had been on the DL from the beginning of the season until getting activated on May 21st picked up the win in Monday’s marathon 13 inning game against the Norfolk Tides.  It was Baker’s first pitching experience since high school back in Portland, Maine.  He became the first SWB Yankee position player to ever pitch in a game and the first for the franchise since SWB Red Baron Ryan Flemming took to the mound in a 12-0 blowout loss to Louisville on May 30, 2006.
