The First of Six (Perhaps)…

It’s an all to familiar sight for the Yankees on a trip to Harbor Park, the tarp on the field with a potential storm brewing

SWB YANKEES GAME NOTES – June 1st

 6-1 SWB Yankees Game Notes

UPDATED WEATHER FORCAST…
Normally this goes at the bottom of the page to give everyone a flavor of what the local weather is for the game.  But as always there seems to be one day every trip to Norfolk that we get the wrath of some kind of storm coming in off of the Atlantic.  The updated forcast from weather.com calls for showers and thunderstorms becoming more scattered by 7pm. Mostly cloudy. Windy early. Temperatures steady near 78F. Winds SSE at 15 to 20 mph.  There is a tornado watch in effect until 9:00 PM tonight for the Norfolk region and basically southern Maryland through the Virginia and North Carolina coast lines.

IT’S LIKE WE’RE IN THE PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE…
Triple-A travel at times can be easy and at times can be an all day experience.  Friday was the later for the Yankees who left the hotel in Buffalo at 4:30 AM with a flight departing at 6:30 through Baltimore.  The club got very familiar with the Baltimore Airport during a lengthy lay over.  After switching planes and landing in Norfolk at around 1:30 PM the team got to the hotel in Norfolk at 2:00 PM.  In plenty of time for the 6:15 first pitch. Of course weather permitting. The Yankees will have three of these types of trips this season.  Standing in line withCole Garner, who played in the PCL with the Colorado Spring SkySox in 2011, at the airport early this morning smiled and said: “This is nothing, easy travel with the number of times you have to do this in the PCL. It seems like you fly every four days.  An eight game home stand (in the PCL) is a real treat.”

THE BROTHERS JOSEPH…
Corban Joseph will make his Triple-A debut with the Yankees in the opening game of the double header.  Joseph who was drafted by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 2008 First Year Player Draft is not the only member of the family playing professional baseball.  His older brother Caleb, a catcher, was also selected in the 2008 First Year Player Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.  The Orioles are the parent club of the Tides.  Caleb is current with the O’s Double-A affiliate Bowie in the Eastern League.
