Game #33 DUR (12-23) vs. SWB (17-15)

The Yankees and Clippers discussing the matters of the day

SWB YANKEES GAME NOTES  – May 11th…
The same exciting notes (hitter’s, pitcher’s, hitting and fielding stats) that are passed out at the stadium.  More information than you could possbile ever want (or need) to know.

SWB Yankees Game Notes 5-11

THEY’RE PLAYING THE FEUD
The above photo was snapped during the eighth inning tussle between the Yankees and Clippers in the final game of the four game series Thursday afternoon.  Pre game guest Jack Cust told Jim Mandalaro of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle yesterday: “It was a great win, because that game got a little heated.  We sure gave the fans a little excitement.”  When all was said and done both the Yankees Manny Delcarmen and Matt LaPorta of the Clippers got tossed from the game in the top of the eighth inning.  Thanks to some interesting scheduling, the Yankees and Clippers renew acquaintences again very soon when SWB visits Columbus May 19-22.  Eight games in 16 days.  Not the greatest set up you could hope for.

I KNOW YOU…
The Yankees have seen some very familiar faces over the current portion of the “home stand” at Frontier Field.  With Durham coming that does not change.   SWB will get a chance to face former Yankee Lance Pendleton (’10 – ’11) in the opening game of the four game series on Friday night as well as seeing first baseman (and now outfielder) Juan Miranda (’09 – ’10).  Getting a chance to see Miranda might just be worth the price of admission. A couple of more faces familar to Yankees fans and to the coaching staff, Romulo Sanchez (’09 – ’10) is pitching out of the Durham Bullpen and former Yankees Triple-A pitching coach Neil Allen who was on Dave Miley’s staff in 2006 in Columbus is with the Bulls for his second season as their pitching coach.  Allen was the pitching coach for my first season in minor league baseball in 1995 with the now defunct Mobile BaySharks of the Texas-Louisiana League, which was managed by former SWB Red Barons skipper Butch Hobson.  Full circle people, full circle….

TODAY ON THE HOME STAND…
Friday marks the 14th game of an 18 game 19 day “home” stand for the Yankees.  Who have hosted games in Allentown, PA, Rochester, NY, Batavia, NY and Rochester again.  Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has not been the road team since an April 25th game at Pawtucket.  The Yankees will play eight on the road starting on May 15th against Toledo and Columbus.  Following an off day on the road (in Buffalo) the Yankees will be back at “Home” against the Buffalo Bisons from May 24th – 27th and then will host Toledo at Frontier Field in Rochester from May 28th  – 31st.

WOW!…
The starting lineup for the Durham Bulls (below the Gustavo Molina photo) features seven left handed hitters, one switch hitter and just one right handed batter. The Bulls roster features nine left handed hitters, one switch hitter and just right hander.  I can’t recall an IL roster in my five years here that had even half that many lefties.

Gustavo Molina’s first SWB hit in 2012 was the game winner in the 10th inning on Thursday against Columbus.
